Rugby 4 MND: A Charity Event in Support of Motor Neurone Disease Association

On July 1st, Rugby 4 MND charity rugby match in aid of the Motor Neurone Disease Association (MND Association) will be held at the Lockleaze Sports Centre in Bristol. The event, hosted by the Bristol Combination Rugby Clubs, aims to bring players from across the area together to raise awareness and funds for MND research.

The Rugby 4 MND charity match will be followed by a black-tie dinner, which will include special guest speakers and an auction. All players, regardless of their level of experience, are welcome to participate in the match. A small fee will be required to cover the cost of the playing shirt, which will serve as a memento, participation medal, and meal ticket for the evening. The event will also be graced by the presence of an international 7’s player, who will coach one of the sides, with the possibility of more surprises to come.

The charity event was inspired by Graeme, a 39-year-old man from West Drayton, London, who was diagnosed with MND in July 2021, following a three-year battle with his health. Since his diagnosis, Graeme has been working hard to achieve his personal goals, including his dream of becoming a rugby referee. He has been working with the Oxford Referees Society and has already conducted the coin toss, blown the kick-off whistle, and even been wired up to referee communications.

Graeme is the first person to attempt what he is trying to achieve and his dedication to his goal is a testament to his ability, despite his disability. Rugby 4 MND was created to support Graeme’s fundraising target of £20,000 for the MND Association. The event organizers are also looking for sponsors to help cover the costs of the pitch, meal, shirts, and auction prizes.

  1. Would be delighted to support with the provision of a silent auction with 100% of money raised over reserve going directly back to the charity. With a huge array of memorabilia and experiences available we have something for everyone. The events room also has a large database of after dinner speakers and will be able to assist in anyway possible.
