🏉 FYB Rugby Round Up – 7 September 2026
Welcome to the first FYB Rugby Roundup published every Monday, bringing together three stories celebrating the people, opportunities and achievements making a difference across grassroots rugby.
New funding available for Scottish grassroots rugby
Clubs and schools across Scotland can now apply for support through the second awards programme from the Grass-roots Rugby for Everyone Award Trust.
The GREAT Small Grant offers awards of £2,500 to projects that encourage participation, remove barriers and help more people experience the health and social benefits of rugby. Applications close on 20 September, so eligible clubs and schools will need to move quickly.
It is another welcome example of funding being directed towards the organisations doing the work at the heart of their communities.
London’s young rugby league players recognised
More than 30 young players representing 10 community clubs across London and the South East have been nominated for the London Rugby League Junior Player of the Year Awards.
The nominees range from under-nines through to under-16 boys’ and girls’ teams, with players recognised as the best and fairest in their respective age groups.
The winners will be selected by representatives from the London Broncos Foundation, London Broncos, London Junior League and the RFL, before being presented at the Broncos’ home play-off on 13 September.

Fifty years of giving back to rugby
The University of Memphis Rugby Club has celebrated coach Phil Beck as he begins his next chapter after more than 50 years in the game.
Phil’s rugby journey has taken him from Hong Kong and Wasps to community, age-grade and university coaching in the United States. Since joining Memphis in 2020, he has helped its teams reach seven national 7s competitions, win six conference titles and consistently compete on the national stage.
Now living closer to his family, he has already found another pitch and begun helping the University of Arkansas programme—because true rugby volunteers rarely stay away for long!
That’s this week’s FYB Rugby Roundup. Have you seen a grassroots rugby story that deserves to be shared? Send it our way and it could feature in a future edition.
