Visually Impaired (VI) Rugby is an adapted, non-contact format designed so people with sight loss can experience the teamwork, movement, and belonging that rugby creates. Since its creation in 2015, the sport has grown across the UK and internationally, driven by a shared belief that rugby should be accessible, competitive, and life-changing.

Becoming a member means joining a community that values you for your commitment, attitude, and potential — not your impairment. On and off the pitch, you’ll be supported to play, develop, and belong.

What is VI rugby?

VI Rugby is played with adapted laws, brightly coloured balls, and structured communication to support players across all sight classifications (B2–B5). The game is fully non-contact and prioritises safety, teamwork, communication, and enjoyment.

It is built on three foundations:

Accessibility – Anyone with a visual impairment can join.
Development – Coaching, officiating and progression pathways are in place.
Community – Players, families, and volunteers form a strong, inclusive rugby network.
