About The Club

Southsea Nomads RFC: A Proud Rugby Legacy

We may be social rugby, but don’t be fooled – we play to win. With talented players and experienced coaches, our fun, focused training sessions help develop core skills.

Founded in 1978 by players from the defunct Portsmouth Civil Service RFC, Nomads started life with no permanent home. The club’s name and its snail logo (a nod to being nomads with their home on their back) reflect this history. After several moves, we’ve finally secured a new home at the Cockleshell Community Sports Ground, bringing us back to Southsea where we belong.

Nomads were a founding member of the Hampshire league in 1989 and the first Hampshire club to start a women’s team. Over the years, we’ve proudly sent players on to higher-level clubs, including county teams.

With a rich history, a welcoming community, and a commitment to grassroots rugby, we’re proud of what this club stands for: rugby for all.
