Surbiton Decca RFC

From The Brink: The Rebrand (Part Three)

We completed our last fixture of 2024, as agreed to at our meeting in February, and our AGM was on us in no time.

The Management committee presented a plan in principle:

  • Become an occasional side as registered with the Surrey RFU.
  • Aiming for 4 full-contact games within the 2024/25 season, with 2 games before Christmas and the following in 2025.
  • We will rebrand.
  • The full rebrand strategy will be shared with the Decca family within 28days of this meeting.
  • The club needs to be more social, an increased social calendar to retain current members to be included in the strategy.

Our membership accepted this proposal and with that Racal Decca RFC was ending, with several suggestions and a vote, we would now be Surbiton Decca RFC. A nod to where we had come from with a geographical reference to where we would now be.

A relaunch date was set for 27th July 2024 with us providing two offerings to its members and local community:

Option 1 – Social rugby matches (full contact), 4 games in the 24/25 season

Option 2 – Weekly non-contact rugby sessions – Walking & Touch rugby – beginning in July 2024

Off the field we took onboard the feedback and booked in various events; Relaunch party, a picnic in a local park, going to the Red Roses at Twickenham.

We rebranded with a new logo again, retaining our heritage, and with new merch, from kit partner Overrock, we now offered an updated look both on and off the green stuff.

As we got stuck into our weekly non-contact sessions, booked in our full contact games (receiving great support from our match day landlords Kingston University) and solidified our relationships with clubs and players in our area, there was renewed enthusiasm from our members and Management Committee.

Any plan is only as good as it’s execution, with our members and Management Committee vivacity we have been able to achieve all the targets that we set in the summer of 2024.

We’re back baby!

In the final part of this series we will go into the lessons learnt between the end of 2023 and now.  In the interim any club reading this and thinking they are in similar situation, ask yourself the same questions we asked ourselves.

Have you done everything you can to continue?

And have you really done everything you can to continue?

If the answers are Yes, get in touch. You haven’t done that, yet!
