Our membership accepted this proposal and with that Racal Decca RFC was ending, with several suggestions and a vote, we would now be Surbiton Decca RFC. A nod to where we had come from with a geographical reference to where we would now be.

Over the next three years, the grassroots rugby fund will back more than 30 community clubs, helping to make rugby more inclusive and welcoming at the local level.

From today (30 April), players, clubs, coaches, volunteers, administrators, and fans are encouraged to have their say on proposals aimed at modernising the Rugby Football Union’s (RFU) structures and ensuring every voice is heard in the game’s key decisions.

Lacking games in our own colours was becoming increasingly worrying so we gathered as a club to face our fate and have a very open and honest chat with ourselves, a come-to-Jesus meeting!

To appreciate this tale, we need to rewind to the end of 2023: The outlook for our club, Racal Decca RFC, was bleak to say the least approaching 2024, our 65th year, and reeling from the effects of the post covid drop-off, our lack of success with recruitment hit us like a kick right between the posts!
